Fundraising v Stewardship

Working in a Brisbane Parish some years ago the office secretary, a very committed person shared her concern with me about the monthly ‘Jumble Sale’ she said “The parish spends a lot of time and energy collecting all this stuff for sale”. (The parish hall and stage was chock-a-block full of goods for sale) “I wonder what Jesus would make of all this surely people should be giving more to advance the work of God than they are”. That lady is with God now - it was something of a testimony to her faith in God that she left her estate to the church.
