Planned Giving or a Chocolate Wheel

Submitted by Ron on Fri, 09/07/2010 - 10:28am

I never ceased to be impressed by the commitment and good sense of lay people with whom I’ve worked over the years. One such person was an Arthur Russell, Arthur was a leading businessman in Sydney who also served as Rector’s Warden in his church. When the Parish Council made their decision to proceed with the planned giving program there were those who were opposed to the idea and from all reports were quite vocal about it.

The decision to go ahead was taken after Arthur said “well it’s up to you but if we aren’t going to have a program then I want volunteers to help me with a Chocolate Wheel in front of the church next Saturday”. Needless to say when the vote was taken all voted for the program. Arthur and his wife were absolute stalwarts of the church and an inspiration.
