We give not as we are able but as we understand

Submitted by Ron on Fri, 09/07/2010 - 2:25pm

“We don’t have any needs here” was the comment made by a member of the parish council when it came time for discussion following a presentation. My response had to be “ there are always a new opportunities about extending the mission and ministry of the church”. The Parish Priest readily agreed and listed a number of new initiatives that he was keen for the parish to engage in. He said “not least of which is supporting Catholic Missions overseas”.

That parish undertook a planned giving program with PGC and made a commitment to factor into their budget an amount of $60,000 to be given away in support of Catholic Missions over the tree year period of the program. The old adage ‘we give not as we are able but as we understand’ is true, sometimes our focus is too narrow and we forget the bigger picture of just who and what we are. “Lord teach us to be generous and multiply our gifts for the extension of your kingdom”.
